Berran Biotech is an independent contract research laboratory based in Lessines, in the Walloon Region of Belgium. We were established to fill a specific gap: the distance between what a formulator can claim and what anyone has actually measured.
Cosmetic and dermatological development has changed. Animal testing has been prohibited in Europe for cosmetic purposes for over a decade.
Consumers, retailers and regulators all expect claims to be supported by evidence rather than by adjectives. Each of those pressures points toward the same requirement — rigorous, reproducible, animal-free laboratory data on human tissue.
That is what we produce.

Every claim on a label has to be earned. Whether you are substantiating an anti-ageing benefit, demonstrating that a formulation is well tolerated, proving that an active reaches its target in the skin, or assembling a safety dossier for a regulator, the question is the same: what does the data actually show?
We answer that question. Berran Biotech runs reconstructed human skin models, in vitro efficacy and safety assays, penetration studies, analytical chemistry and regulatory dossiers from a single laboratory in Wallonia.
We are a specialist, not a general-purpose laboratory. Skin is what we do.

Three kinds of clients, one set of questions.
Nine service areas, covering the path from an idea for a formulation to a dossier a regulator will accept. Most projects draw on several of them; we will tell you which, and quote them as one programme rather than as a list of line items.
Cosmetic and dermo-cosmetic brands
You need claims you can defend, a safety file that survives inspection, and a preservative system that holds. We can take a formulation from brief to notified product, or step in at any point along that path — most often when a claim needs evidence or a dossier needs a missing study..
Contract manufacturers and formulators
Development and testing capacity without adding headcount. We work as a subcontracted laboratory for manufacturers who prefer to keep production in-house and buy the analytical, microbiological and safety work in. Confidentiality agreements are signed before anything is discussed, and your client relationships remain yours.
Ingredient developers and biotechnology companies
A new active needs characterisation, a mechanism, penetration evidence and a safety position before anyone will formulate with it. We can synthesise, purify, characterise and test it, and hand you the technical file your customers will ask for.
